Information Meeting

Lake Arrowhead, CA - In a packed gymnasium at Rim of the World High School, Jim Wilkins, the Southern California Incident Command Team 2 Chief Information Officer from San Bernardino County Fire Department presented a panel of emergency management personnel. As of Noon Saturday, no homes have been lost due to the fire. Furthermore, according to Incident Commander Ralph Domanski, containment is expected this evening on the western flank of the fire. The fire has been holding along the northern flank, closest to the mountain communities, but continues to expand through the steep slopes to the south and east.

Chief Bill Smith of the Running Springs Fire Department was pleased to announce that FEMA has approved a fire management assistance grant which was applied for only Friday night. The speed at which this grant was approved could be largely attributed to the awareness in Sacramento and Washington by the various Fire Safe Councils on the mountain, according to Smith. Gene Zimmerman, the San Bernardino National Forest Supervisor stated that we have "the worst forest health crisis in the United States," and that "the President is well aware of what is going on here." He praised the residents and emergency personnel saying that "this was the most well-oiled machine I've ever seen."
